We are pleased to announce the hire of George W. Kroup, as Senior Counsel. George joins us from a prominent international law firm where he established himself as a resourceful and creative litigator capable of obtaining a broad range of commercial disputes and related regulatory inquiries, from the pre-complaint stage through trial and appeal.

At WMH, George will continue to represent corporations and individuals in complex commercial and regulatory matters. “George is a full tool kit litigator who will help us grow our thriving commercial litigation practice, including in the financial institution and media and entertainment spaces,” said Partner Timothy Macht.

George’s past matters have involved disputes arising from complex financial transactions, securities fraud actions, common-law tort and contract claims, FCC, SEC, and FDA regulatory matters, and bankruptcy and restructuring disputes. He has extensive trial experience, including first-chair roles, and has been responsible for every aspect of discovery and pretrial practice in civil litigation, including taking and defending expert and fact depositions, engaging in written discovery, authoring dispositive and other briefs, and arguing motions.

“George is an extremely talented lawyer with extensive experience litigating disputes,” said Partner Jeff Udell. “His deep understanding of sophisticated commercial arrangements and complex statutory and regulatory schemes will make him a valuable asset to our clients. We are very excited to welcome him to the WMH team.”

George’s recent representations include roles as: trial counsel for a large financial institution in a lawsuit concerning the valuation of defaulted derivatives contracts; trial and appellate counsel for a major cable provider in a lawsuit alleging violations of FCC regulations; litigation counsel for the media company debtor in a disputed bankruptcy confirmation proceeding; and arbitration counsel in a dispute concerning the tax obligations of affiliated entities following a spin-off. Beyond his civil litigation experience, he has conducted internal investigations for and responded to regulatory inquiries on behalf of his clients and has prepared witnesses for testimony to regulators.

George graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a semifinalist in the Hinton Moot Court competition and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He has a B.A. from Cornell University.
